Vacation Placements 2017

The 2017 vacation placements are designed for whom? 
For law students in their penultimate year of study who would be eligible to commence a training contract in September 2019, after completing the PCLL for one year. 

How many vacancies do you have? 
4 - 6 vacancies 

How do I apply for a vacation placement? 
Complete our online application form and submit it along with your cover letter, CV and transcripts. 

The application will open from September 2016 and will be closed on 12 February 2017. We encourage you to visit our website again for submitting your application when the application opens and the transcripts of your legal subjects are available. 

Once your 2017 internship application is completed, you will be automatically be considered for the 2019 Training Contract, so there is no need for you to complete a separate form for it. 

What is the length of each vacation placement?
Three weeks in July.

Will I be paid?
Yes, we offer competitive salary.

Is a training contract interview guaranteed?
Yes, this will take place towards the end of the third week.

What work will I do during the summer placement?
You will undertake work similar to that of a trainee, subject to your level of legal knowledge and capabilities.

What else is organized during the summer placement?
We run a comprehensive orientation program, which runs intensively for the first couple of days. Informal talks with partners and associates give an overview of each of our practice groups; daily lunches with your buddy and mentor allow you to really get to know people and ask informal questions. HR will also tell you more about our training contract program and package together, with some tips for the training contract interview. In addition, there are also formal training sessions covering both legal and professional development skills, a half-day devoted to community engagement and ample opportunities to interact with partners, associates and business support staff at a number of social events.

What happens on an Open Evening?
It is an informal event where our Graduate Recruitment Partner will give you an introduction to our business. You can find out more about the training contract selection process from HR and hear from an Associate/Trainee why they chose White & Case. You will also to get the chance to talk with a variety of people over drinks afterwards.

We plan to take two trainee solicitors for this year.

Do I have to complete a vacation placement to be considered for a training contract?
It is not essential but we highly recommend the opportunity to get a first hand experience of what life is like for a trainee at White & Case. It will help both you and us make an informed decision on whether this is the right place for you to start your career. A vacation placement is also an excellent way get some commercial work experience. 

What about the salary?
We offer competitive salary. You will also be eligible to participate in the discretionary bonus scheme based on a review of your performance and in accordance with applicable policy of the Firm. 

Do you provide sponsorship for the PCLL?
Yes, we will cover your tuition fees and provide you a maintenance grant for supporting your PCLL studies. 

Where will I spend my overseas seat?
All Hong Kong trainees will spend one six-month seat in our London office.
